The first thing to think about with each name is how it will sound. You are going to have to say it a lot, and you don't want to get tired of it. Also, you want your cat to hear it easily. That's why many cats have a name with a long vowel sound- they quickly pick up on their name if it has a long vowel, such as the "e" in Leo.
The color of your cat's fur can point you towards plenty of excellent cat names, and some rather less obvious ones as well. Some people - the British are famous for this - love unexpected names. I know at least one English cat called Snowball - who has beautiful black fur! And, you guessed it: Sooty was as white as snow. Those who have soft spots for British cat names might consider something like Chivers (a popular English marmalade) for your new auburn or ginger cat.
Or you can look at your cat's eyes. Just one thing - remember your kitten's blue eyes will probably change color with age (unless it's a Siamese, of course). That still leaves you Tawny, Charcoal or Slate... Why not crystal cat names? Crystals are precious, as is your cat. To get you started Jet, Topaz and Jade are special cat names.
